<p class="has-medium-font-size" style="text-align: justify;">Tout d&rsquo;abord, merci aux élèves du <a href="/bia/"><strong>Brevet d&rsquo;Initiation Aéronautique</strong></a> d&rsquo;Indre-et-Loire pour avoir participé aux cours d&rsquo;anglais en ligne. Puisque les conditions sanitaires sont ce qu&rsquo;elles sont, il a fallu reporter plusieurs fois ce rendez-vous annuel. Même s&rsquo;il n&rsquo;y a pas de solution idéale, plusieurs élèves ont pu suivre ces cours en ligne.&nbsp;Pour la préparation finale, les élèves peuvent s&rsquo;entraîner sur des QCM en ligne. Ils sont ainsi disponibles sur <a href="http://aero-scolaire.ac-orleans-tours.fr/php5/qcm/liste.htm">le site de l&rsquo;Académie d&rsquo;Orléans-Tours</a>. En fait, il s&rsquo;agit de la page du <a href="https://www.ac-orleans-tours.fr/">CIRAS</a>, le Comité d&rsquo;Initiation Régional à l&rsquo;Aéronautique et au Spatial. Je remercie aussi le Président du Comité Départemental Aéronautique d&rsquo;Indre-et-Loire, M. Daniel ANDRÉ. En effet, il a tout tenté pour que les cours d&rsquo;anglais de l&rsquo;aviation puissent avoir lieu à temps. Par conséquent, contrat rempli puisque l&rsquo;examen du BIA aura lieu ce mercredi 30 septembre 2020 à 14h00.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size" style="text-align: justify;">Il est nécessaire de réviser ce qui a été vu en cours. Vous pouvez retrouver le document officiel du vocabulaire d&rsquo;anglais aéronautique de l&rsquo;Académie de Montpellier. Il est disponible sur <a href="https://ciras.site.ac-lille.fr/">la page du CIRAS de l&rsquo;Académie de Lille</a>. Vous pouvez accéder à une page d&rsquo;informations et <strong>ressources BIA</strong> <a href="/bia/">sur ce site</a>. Le meilleur blog que je connaisse sur le BIA est celui de &nbsp;Laurent Leroy qui publie sur <a href="http://blog.ac-versailles.fr/brevetinitiationaeronautique/">le site de l&rsquo;Académie de Versailles</a>. Vous y trouverez de nombreuses informations toutes intéressantes, hélas peu de choses sur l&rsquo;anglais aéronautique. Ses articles sont tous très intéressants.&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/AirTconcept">Pierre Marty</a> a aussi fait un travail remarquable pour aider les jeunes à réviser le BIA. Son site comprend des cours, des quizz et un blog sur le BIA. Même si je n&rsquo;ai rien trouvé concernant l&rsquo;anglais aéronautique, <a href="https://airtractorconcept.eu">son site</a> vaut le détour. Vous trouverez ci-dessous les livres que j&rsquo;ai évoqués en cours.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Le BIA, une fenêtre sur l&rsquo;aéronautique</h2>



<p class="has-medium-font-size" style="text-align: justify;">Vous disposez d&rsquo;une <a href="/category/academics-topics/exams/caea-et-bia/">page d&rsquo;articles sur le BIA</a> sur ce site. Vous trouverez aussi de nombreux liens utiles <a href="/2018/05/13/aviation-english-is-10-years-today-dear-readers-let-me-thank-you-this-way/">dans cet article</a>. Le Brevet d&rsquo;Initiation Aéronautique est un diplôme du ministère de l&rsquo;Éducation nationale. Le public et le privé reconnaissent ce diplôme sur un CV. C&rsquo;est un tremplin pour débuter une carrière dans le secteur aéronautique. Il est un plus pour entrer dans un établissement scolaire. Pour préparer le BIA 2021, une réunion d&rsquo;information aura lieu ce samedi 26 septembre 2020 à 14h30 à la Maison des sports de Tours. Plus de détails en fin d&rsquo;affiche:</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">C’est dans une ambiance bon enfant que s’est déroulée la remise des diplômes du <a href="https://airforces.fr/tag/bia/"><strong>BIA</strong></a> (Brevet d’Initiation Aéronautique) et du <a href="https://airforces.fr/2012/09/16/caea-certificat-daptitude-a-lenseignement-aeronautique/"><strong>CAEA</strong></a> (Certificat d’Aptitude à l’Enseignement Aéronautique) à l’aérodrome de Chartres samedi 1er juillet 2017.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">La cérémonie était présidée par Jean-Jacques Wald,&nbsp;coordonnateur académique aéronautique et spatial qui à cette occasion, représentait la rectrice de l’Académie d’Orléans-Tours, Katia Béguin. De nombreux officiels assistaient à l&rsquo;évènement: la <a href="https://www.ffa-aero.fr/FR/Federation_Aeronautique.awp"><strong>FFA</strong></a> (Fédération Française Aéronautique), de l&rsquo;<a href="https://www.education.gouv.fr/">Éducation nationale</a> (dont le coordonnateur du <a href="http://aero-scolaire.ac-orleans-tours.fr/php5/ciras.htm">BIA pour l’Indre-et-Loire</a>, Claude Fillet) et de l&rsquo;<a href="https://devenir-aviateur.fr/">Armée de l&rsquo;air</a> qui animait plusieurs stands.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Les diplômes BIA étaient bien plus nombreux et nécessitaient une organisation qui prenait place dans les hangars avion.</p>
<p>À titre de comparaison, il n&rsquo;y avait que quatorze diplômes du CAEA pour quelques centaines de diplômes BIA</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">L’Armée de l’air a ensuite offert un livre de bandes-dessinées «Buck Dany» à tous ceux qui ont obtenu mention très bien au BIA.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Ce n&rsquo;était pas le plus beau premier juillet qui soit, de mémoire d&rsquo;aviateur, comme en témoigne le parapluie sur la première photo. Malgré la météo, les sourires étaient sur toutes les lèvres et le show pouvait débuter avec notamment un superbe Pitts au moteur surpuissant capable de suspendre l’appareil sur la tranche, oscillant dans toutes les positions et n’importe où dans le ciel.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Puis vint le tour tant attendu de la reine du ciel, <strong><a href="https://www.catherine-maunoury.fr/">Catherine Maunoury</a></strong>, qui enchanta les jeunes et anciens avec un numéro sur mesure, le plafond étant trop bas, le spectacle habituellement prévu était écarté car trop dangereux. Les spécialistes estimaient la base des nuages à moins de 1000 pieds (300 mètres).</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Il est de rares pilotes dans le monde qui, lorsqu&rsquo;ils quittent la piste, communient totalement avec leur machine. C&rsquo;est un miracle de les voir évoluer dans les airs. Ces instants ont quelque chose de magique. Peu importe la grisaille, dès que ces virtuoses du ciel décollent, pour les petits comme pour les grands, c&rsquo;est comme si le Soleil se levait, et même par temps maussade. Catherine fait partie de ces acrobates, ces chevaliers du ciel, comme en témoigne ce superbe reportage:</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Bref, retour à Chartres en ce premier samedi de juillet 2017: Catherine s’élance sur son Extra 330 bleu aux parures oranges, pour des manœuvres réduites en hauteur et enchaîne immédiatement des chandelles, virages serrés, retournements, renversements, tonneaux, à facettes, le tout avec une précision et une vivacité qui provoque de nombreux applaudissements des spectateurs conquis.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">S’ils n’avaient pas su qu’il s’agissait de la triple championne du monde, Ambassadrice du <a href="https://www.museeairespace.fr/"><strong>Musée de l’Air et l’Espace du Bourget</strong></a> et présidente de l’<a href="https://aeroclub.com/"><strong>Aéro-Club de France</strong></a>, les amateurs auraient juré qu’il s’agissait de <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b03AH8-pqVc">Kirby Chambliss</a> aux commandes, l’Américain qui vient de remporter la dernière compétition du fameux Red Bull Air Race à Budapest. La performance de la célèbre Française est si physique et précise que peu d’hommes au monde peuvent rivaliser avec la virtuose de l’air.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Elle a ensuite eu la gentillesse lors du vin d’honneur, de poser avec Daniel Deneken (instructeur pilote qui œuvre pour le BIA dans la région Centre-Val-de-Loire et pour la conservation des avions anciens pour <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20220516141050/http://canopee-chateaudun.fr/cgi-sys/suspendedpage.cgi"><strong>Canopée</strong></a>, à Chateaudun). À cette occasion, le livre <strong><a href="https://www.amazon.fr/dp/1541120019/" class="broken_link" rel="nofollow"><em>Une autre histoire de l’aviation</em></a></strong> de Toni Giacoia était présenté au public au stand de la FFA qui lui a gentiment aménagé une place. Ce livre intéresse le BIA puisque des principes du vol y sont évoqués ainsi que l&rsquo;histoire de l&rsquo;aviation qui est un des cinq modules de cette formation diplômante. L&rsquo;histoire de l&rsquo;as Maxime Lenoir, pionnier de l&rsquo;aviation et du looping, héros tourangeau de la bataille de Verdun, est abordée dans la seconde partie du livre. Le CAEA quant à lui, nécessite plus de travail car il est d&rsquo;une valence Bac +2 et il est nécessaire pour enseigner et encadrer des classes de BIA.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Les échanges furent nombreux et tous sont d’accord pour dire qu’entre l’Éducation nationale, la FFA et l’Armée de l’air, le BIA représente une chance de partager ses passions dans des accords gagnant-gagnant. <p style="text-align: justify;">De prime abord, c&rsquo;est un blog comme un autre mais ceux qui sont de près ou de loin dans l&rsquo;aviation, et surtout dans le BIA et le CAEA, ont tout intérêt à s&rsquo;abonner ici: <a href="http://blog.ac-versailles.fr/brevetinitiationaeronautique/index.php/feed/atom">http://blog.ac-versailles.fr/brevetinitiationaeronautique/index.php/feed/atom</a>  En effet, le blog est actualisé presque chaque jour et il rassemble des informations très intéressantes touchant tous les secteurs de l&rsquo;aéronautique et de l&rsquo;espace.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Dans la marge sur la gauche de la page d&rsquo;accueil, sous le titre « CATEGORIES », vous trouverez une mine de sites tous aussi utiles les uns que les autres qui vous feront décoller dans le vaste monde de l&rsquo;aéronautique. Vous y trouverez bien sûr des informations sur le BIA mais aussi des établissements, des institutions, des MOOC, des chaînes vidéo étonnantes avec des liens comme, par exemple, une réponse à la question « combien pèse un nuage ». On y trouve une catégorie très utile: <a href="http://blog.ac-versailles.fr/brevetinitiationaeronautique/index.php/category/Formations-et-m%C3%A9tiers-de-l-a%C3%A9rien">FORMATIONS ET MÉTIERS DE L&rsquo;AÉRIEN</a> et d&rsquo;autant plus utile qu&rsquo;un flux RSS est proposé pour pouvoir s&rsquo;y abonner, c&rsquo;est le cas pour toutes les catégories proposées, vous pouvez sélectionner le type d&rsquo;abonnement que vous souhaitez. C&rsquo;est un site très riche et passionnant. Dans une même page, les fusées peuvent croiser les avions, les ULM, planeurs, drones et cerfs-volants. L&rsquo;auteur de ce blog, Laurent Leroy, évoque aussi les magazines, livres et la documentation pratique ou officielle qui traitent de l&rsquo;aéronautique et de l&rsquo;espace. Virtuellement, en cliquant sur son site, c&rsquo;est un peu comme si vous entriez à la fois au Salon International de l&rsquo;Aéronautique et de l&rsquo;Espace du Bourget mais aussi dans un aéroclub de province en faisant un détour par la Cité de l&rsquo;Espace de Toulouse, sans oublier les richesses partagées provenant de la FAA, la DGAC, Météo France, l&rsquo;AESA, la NASA et l&rsquo;OACI et bien d&rsquo;autres archives. Autre page appréciable, le site met à disposition des visiteurs une collection de liens tous très utiles:</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Laurent Leroy a écrit plusieurs centaines d&rsquo;articles sur son blog depuis janvier 2013. On peut se demander comment il fait pour glaner autant de pépites de l&rsquo;actualité aéronautique mais de son propre aveu, il souhaiterait en faire plus et il reconnaît volontiers que le temps lui manque pour aborder plus de sujets. Cet enseignant d&rsquo;Education Physique et Sportive est attiré depuis toujours par le vol. Au point qu&rsquo;il décroche son brevet de pilote d&rsquo;ULM. Il va ensuite rencontrer dans la communauté des pilotes d&rsquo;Ultra-Légers Motorisés un autre enseignant, <a href="http://blog.ac-versailles.fr/brevetinitiationaeronautique/index.php/post/05/08/2013/Disparition-de-Pascal-Bret,-d%C3%A9l%C3%A9gu%C3%A9-du-CIRAS-de-Versailles">Pascal Bret</a>, qui lui présente l&rsquo;intérêt du BIA pour les jeunes. Il décide alors d&rsquo;encadrer ces activités aéronautiques en passant l&rsquo;examen et obtient le CAEA. En 2011, il fait le constat d&rsquo;un manque de supports pour enseigner les modules du BIA et a l&rsquo;idée d&rsquo;utiliser les  TICE. Visiblement passionné par ce qu&rsquo;il fait, il poste depuis des articles à un rythme régulier et assez soutenu vu la qualité des contenus qui demandent forcément beaucoup de préparation et de recherche. Il capte des informations d&rsquo;intérêt indéniable et les partages. Concrètement aujourd&rsquo;hui, n&rsquo;importe quel enseignant CAEA peut faire cours grâce à son site si la salle est reliée à internet. N&rsquo;importe quel candidat BIA-CAEA peut préparer son examen en puisant dans ses pages. Utile aussi, un moteur de recherche en haut à gauche vous donne tous les articles répondant à une demande. C&rsquo;est grâce à la bonne volonté de gens comme Laurent Leroy que des générations d&rsquo;aviateurs naissent lesquels peuvent revenir sur son site pour s&rsquo;informer car les amateurs et professionnels de l&rsquo;aéronautique peuvent trouver satisfaction dans ses articles qui réunissent des informations technologiques, commerciales, historiques, sportives, scientifiques et culturelles de l&rsquo;aéronautique et de l&rsquo;espace. Vraiment, allez jeter un oeil. Vous ne serez pas déçu mais surveillez tout de même la montre car vous risquez bien de ne pas décrocher:</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Enfin, en plus de ce travail, Laurent Leroy doit gérer au lycée l&rsquo;association mise en place pour la construction du premier aéronef avec ses apprenants. Il souligne que cette réalisation n&rsquo;aurait pu s&rsquo;accomplir sans la complicité dans cette entreprise avec son collègue <a href="http://blog.ac-versailles.fr/brevetinitiationaeronautique/index.php/post/01/07/2013/Une-journ%C3%A9e-%C3%A0-Episy%2C-centre-de-vol-%C3%A0-voile.2">Jean-Louis Millan</a>, instructeur de vol à voile. Ils ont le projet d&rsquo;aller au prochain salon du Bourget pour présenter leur avion mais cherchent encore de nouvelles subventions. Laurent Leroy rappelle que sans ces soutiens précieux venus de messieurs Bret et Millan, ils n&rsquo;en seraient pas là aujourd&rsquo;hui, avec une telle activité aéronautique. Bravo et bonne chance pour ces beaux projets.</p>

<p>Le BIA est une excellent moyen de s&rsquo;initier à l&rsquo;aviation et l&rsquo;aérospatiale. Bon nombre de vocations aéronautiques sont nées de ce dispositif interministérielle et il connaît une croissance sans précédent depuis ces dernières années. Toutes celles et ceux qui ont suivi ce cursus ne le regrettent pas car on y apprend énormément de choses passionantes et le BIA peut entraîner des facilités sous formes d&rsquo;aides lors des premières heures de vol des jeunes qui souhaitent devenir pilotes.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">Les professionnels de l&rsquo;aéronautique sont de plus en plus amenés à communiquer en anglais. Il importe de bénéficier d&rsquo;une formation en anglais général mais aussi en anglais spécialisé pour pouvoir rester compétitif sans compter qu&rsquo;il y va de la <strong>SECURITE DES VOLS</strong> (FCL .055, Part 66, etc).</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Certains défauts de compréhension voire d&rsquo;expression en <strong>anglais aéronautique</strong> ne viennent pas toujours de la terrible « barrière des langues » mais quelquefois aussi d&rsquo;un manque de connaissances dans certains secteurs de l&rsquo;<strong>aviation</strong> et de l&rsquo;<strong>aérospatiale</strong>. C&rsquo;est d&rsquo;autant plus compréhensible que ces sciences couvrent de vastes domaines langagiers. Par exemple, l&rsquo;ATPL et le CPL (licences pilote pour avions de ligne) totalisent 14 modules de formations qui concernent la sécurité des vols, la physique, le droit, la météorologie, la médecine, la communication et le facteur humain entre autres et que cela soit en anglais ou en français.</p>

<li style="text-align: justify;">Le terme anglais « <a title="Canopy" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_canopy" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">CANOPY</a> » peut à la fois désigner la <strong><a title="Verrière aéronautique" href="https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verri%C3%A8re#Verri.C3.A8re_en_a.C3.A9ronautique" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">verrière</a> de l&rsquo;avion</strong> de chasse, la <strong>voile du parachute</strong> mais aussi la canopée qui est l&rsquo;étage supérieur d&rsquo;une forêt. On comprend bien ici que lors de messages d&rsquo;urgence échangés à basse altitude, l&rsquo;usage des trois significations au travers du même terme pourrait engendrer une confusion.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Le terme « <a title="Bearing" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bearing_%28disambiguation%29" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">BEARING</a> » peut désigner <strong>un roulement d&rsquo;un train d&rsquo;atterrissage</strong> ou de charnière de trappe par exemple. En navigation, ce même terme signifie aussi <strong>le gisement ou le relèvement</strong> par rapport à une balise par exemple. Il est ici peu probable que ce terme engendre une incompréhension mais c&rsquo;est sans compter sur l&rsquo;aspect phonétique. En effet, il est possible, pourquoi pas, d&rsquo;entendre les noms propres « Bering » et « Baring » lors d&rsquo;une conversation concernant un aéronef ou un vol.</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Par conséquent, quiconque se lance dans l&rsquo;anglais aéronautique à des fins de traduction ou de communication a certainement intérêt à étudier l&rsquo;aérospatiale dans ses différents aspects tout en conservant une approche globale. C&rsquo;est en quelque sorte ce que propose en France le <strong>CAEA</strong> (<strong>Certificat d&rsquo;Aptitude à l&rsquo;Enseignement Aéronautique</strong>).</p>
<h2>Le programme du CAEA, le même que celui du BIA mais en plus abondant, consiste en 5 modules:</h2>
<h3>I. <strong>MÉTÉOROLOGIE ET AÉROLOGIE<br />
</strong></h3>

<p style="padding-left: 60px;">2. Les masses d&rsquo;air et les fronts;</p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px;">3. Les nuages;</p>

<p style="padding-left: 60px;">5. Les phénomènes dangereux pour le vol.</p>
<h3>II.  <strong>AÉRODYNAMIQUE, AÉROSTATIQUE ET PRINCIPES DU VOL</strong></h3>
<p style="padding-left: 60px; text-align: justify;">1. La sustentation de l&rsquo;aile, résistance de l&rsquo;air, profils d&rsquo;ailes, portance, traînée, polaire, finesse, moment;</p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px; text-align: justify;">2. Le vol stabilisé, le vol plané, le vol motorisé;</p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px; text-align: justify;">3. L&rsquo;aérostation, les ballons à air chaud et les ballons gonflés au gaz;</p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px; text-align: justify;">4. Le vol spatial, la trajectoire de lancement, la mise en orbite, le vol orbital et spatial.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Le diplôme du CAEA</strong> permet à des étudiants, maîtres et professeurs de</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">fournir un enseignement dans le domaine de l&rsquo;aéronautique et de l&rsquo;espace dans les établissements scolaires et <strong>universitaires</strong>. L&rsquo;Education nationale exige l&rsquo;encadrement de toute activité aéronautique en milieu scolaire ou universitaire par un détenteur du CAEA qui permet aussi sous certaines conditions de <strong>devenir instructeur</strong> en aéroclub sur avions ou ULM. A l&rsquo;inverse, les instructeurs pilote privé ou pilote vol à voile sont reconnus titulaires, par équivalence, du CAEA.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">L&rsquo;<strong>examen</strong> du <strong>CAEA</strong> est orga­nisé <strong>dans chaque académie</strong>, par les <strong>Comités d&rsquo;Initiation et de Recher­che Aéronautique et Spatiale</strong> (<strong>CIRAS</strong>). Les établissements proposant des sessions se sont multipliés ces dernières années et il est désormais plus facile de trouver un centre d&rsquo;examen plus ou moins proche.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Le programme du CAEA a été établi par la <strong>COMIXA</strong> (COmmission MIXte Aéronautique entre <strong>ministère de l’Education Nationale</strong> et <strong>ministère des Transports</strong>). Le diplôme est délivré conjointement par les deux ministères. Il sanctionne une aptitude à enseigner l&rsquo;aéronautique l&rsquo;aérospatiale et même s&rsquo;il n&rsquo;a officiellement que <strong>Bac +2</strong> comme équivalence, il est fortement recommandé de bien étudier tous les modules. En effet, si les pilotes et professionnels de l&rsquo;aéronautique peuvent l&rsquo;obtenir sans difficultés (il faut préciser qu&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;un <strong>QCM</strong>), sans entraînement un pilote peut tout à fait échouer à cet examen car 20 questions sur 100 sont consacrées à l&rsquo;histoire de l&rsquo;aéronautique et quelques questions abordent l&rsquo;espace.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Des <strong>épreuves facultatives</strong> sont possibles suivant les centres d&rsquo;examen:</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;">&#8211; aéromodélisme et fusées<br />
&#8211; aérostats<br />
&#8211; aérodynes<br />
&#8211; <strong>anglais aéronautique</strong><br />
&#8211; construction amateur</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Pour la session 2016, l&rsquo;anglais aéronautique sera la seule option retenue, elle permettrait de glaner au maximum deux points sur vingt de la note finale.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Le COMIXA et les CIRAS proposent aussi un <strong>BIA</strong> (<strong>Brevet d&rsquo;Initiation à l&rsquo;Aéronautique</strong>) dont le niveau de difficulté est bien plus abordable mais il ne permet pas d&rsquo;encadrer une activité aéronautique ni d&rsquo;enseigner.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">En général, la date de clôture des inscriptions au CAEA et au BIA se situe à la mi-mars de chaque année et la date des examens à la mi-mai. Il n&rsquo;y a qu&rsquo;une session par an.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">En ce qui concerne la demande d&rsquo;obtention par équivalence du CAEA il y a 2 sessions par an. Les dossiers de demande doivent être adressés au plus tard:</p>

<li>mi-avril pour une session en juin</li>
<li>mi-septembre pour une session en octobre</li>
</ul>

<p>Longitudinal control systems control pitch about the lateral axis of the aircraft. Many aircraft use a conventional elevator system for this purpose. However, aircraft that operate in the higher speed ranges usually have a movable horizontal stabilizer. Both types of systems are discussed in the following text.</p>
<p><strong>ELEVATOR CONTROL SYSTEM &#8211; </strong>A typical conventional elevator control system is operated by the control stick in the cockpit, and is hydraulically powered by the elevator power mechanism. The operation of the elevator control system is initiated when the control stick is moved fore or aft. When the stick is moved, it actuates the control cables that move the elevator control bell crank. The bell crank transmits the movement to the power mechanism through the control linkage. In turn, the power mechanism actuates a push-pull tube, which deflects the elevators up or down. If the hydraulic system fails, the cylinder can be disconnected. In this condition the controls work manually through the linkage of the mechanism to actuate the elevators.</p>
<p><strong>HORIZONTAL STABILIZER CONTROL SYSTEM &#8211; </strong>Horizontal stabilizer control systems are given a variety of names by the various aircraft manufacturers. Some aircraft systems are defined as a unit horizontal tail (UHT) control systems, while others are labeled the stabilator control system. Regardless of the name, these systems function to control the aircraft pitch about its lateral axis.</p>

<p>WWI French ace Georges Guynemer used to say:</p>
<ul>
<li><em>« Il y a une limite à toute chose, et il faut toujours la dépasser. »</em> « Everything has a limit which has always got to be surpassed. »</li>
<li><em>« Lorsque l&rsquo;on n&rsquo;a pas tout donné, on n&rsquo;a rien donné. »</em> « Until one has given all, one has given nothing »</li>
</ul>
<p>Last but not least, Captain Guynemer&rsquo;s most famous phrase &#8211; <em>« Faire face »</em> « Face up to it » was then adopted by the French Air Force Academy (FAFA) as their motto. A few words that well expresses the French pilots&rsquo; bravery.</p>
<p>Loyal to these principles, the French ace took part in several hundreds of aerial combats, crediting <strong>53 victories</strong>. He was shot down <strong>seven times</strong>, and he was admired for he always survived, but that September 11&#8230; The hero took off once again. Outnumbered by German warplanes in a last dogfighting over Belgium. Then, he fell.</p>
