HURRICANE Irene to reach NEW-YORK

A pilot risking his life onboard a 53d Weather Reconnaissance Squadron WC-130J Weatherbird weather reconnaissance aircraft, observed the hurricane in the eye of the storm and reported winds at around 100mph today:

New-York braces for what could be the most destructive hurricane since 1938 maybe 1821. South and North Carolina are beginning to feel the effects of Irene. As showed in the videos hereafter, Irene might cause widespread damage particularly by flooding well beyond the coastal cities such as Virginia Beach; Norfolk; Atlantic City, as well as Kill Devil Hills, the site of the Wright Brothers National Memorial close to Kitty Hawk:

Makeshift Libyan airfield awaits Nato approval for rebel C-130

According to a Libyan rebel – a former Libyan Air Force transport pilot – in the video below, this road cut off at the Tunisian border, has been converted into a two-mile airstrip (3,500 meters) to receive rebel aircraft such as C-130 or Antonov cargo aircraft which could be resupplied with weapons and ammunition.

However, the rebels would not use this freshly painted runway if NATO or the USA did not give them permission to land on this brand new airstrip:

The springs are used to absorb the shock of landing the ski-equipped aircraft on the Antarctic ice. 4/30/2010Â -Â WASHINGTON (AFNS) -Â Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates has authorized two Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft to support the response to a massive oil slick that threatens wetlands and beaches along the Gulf Coast, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell confirmed April 30.

In addition, Navy officials have dispatched 66,000 feet of inflatable oil boom with anchoring equipment, along with seven skimming systems and their supporting gear to the region, Navy Lt. Myers Vasquez reported.
